The honda is shorter than the rav 4 and seemed narrower than my 3

Freakin JKUs must be nearly the size of H3s nowadays.

My lifted XJ has the exact same roof height as the Lincoln MKX that's parked next to it right now :(

I think I recall hearing that the original Odyssey, a mini van, is almost the same size as the new Prius V hatchback thing. Cars are huge now.

A new 'compact' Focus is taller, wider, and weighs about the same as a first gen 'mid-size' Mazda 6 (depending on trim...an ST weighs 200 lbs more than an I4 Mazda 6 sedan). They're not even that many years apart. Was very noticeable driving them back to back.

Speaking of H2/3s. I see at least 3-4 of those a day since gas prices dropped. They have not aged well.

Yes, the first Rav 4 was the shortest car that Toyota sold at the time, shorter than the Yaris.
The original VW Golf was smaller and much lighter than today's Polo.
And so on and on.

Everyone I know with a vehicle with a third row either takes that row out or folds them flat. Just seems unnecessary to me. I know plenary use the extra seats but I prefer a smaller family so I can have fun cars

Exactly the sort of thing that had me call bullshit on an "old wagon or modern compact" crash comparison between an older midsize Volvo and a newer Citroen. It was viewing the two in light of the "should I buy an old bulky car or a new sporty compact?" argument. The citroen was within spitting distance of the same weight, so a claim that it was safer that much more due to *better design* was not intrinsically true. A convenient lie, IOW.
To boil it down, their conclusion was partly correct (new compact is safer, usually or often), but it was supported by a faulty premise - and the advantages touted re: the new car being a compact were mostly vapor for the same reasons - not really a compact so much (despite having less usable space), not that unimaginably better mileage... What they had intended to be an apples/oranges comparison on overall sum merit ended up being a lot more lime/lemon then they realized.

Your XJ also has a smaller footprint than a 13 Mustang GT :)

I know. Safety and all that. I just took the opportunity to illustrate vehicle growth. A minivan of yesteryear is smaller in many aspects than a small cuv of today.

It's so true! Left: My stock XJ. Center: Piece of shit not a real new Cherokee. Right: Friend's XJ with 2 in lift on '33s.

What's really amusing about it is that the "Mini" is gone from the minivan. They are almost as big as a full size van with 3 rows of seats and some cargo room behind it. The real difference is that they lost the full frame and RWD, and now minivans are just vans with lots of luxury goodies that get crappy mileage like old fullsize vans used to get. A brick moves air like a brick, no matter what wheel drive it is!!!

My e30 never ceases to amaze me with its small size. Never looks strange in my driveway but it's so small in parking lots.

Well, H3's aren't that big. They're based on the previous colorado after all. (The unabashedly terrible one)

Angles indeed, but that doesn't look as strange as my experience. Either way, nice collection you've got there. Is that an IS? I think I see bolstered seats. (Please don't say IX, please don't say IX).
